Jean will work with you to select appropriate supplies from her recommended supply list when you too love watercolor and want to keep coming back for more lessons!
Class description:
Learn the watercolor techniques Jean uses to create detailed nature and wildlife paintings. Classes are designed for beginner – intermediate watercolor artists. Drawing/sketching skills are not required. Students will follow Jean’s step by step examples and demonstrations to create a watercolor painting. Additionally, Jean will discuss the importance of:
- designing a strong piece of art following composition rules
- keeping colors clean and fresh
- using complimentary color schemes
- creating harmony and unity between background and foreground
- getting your values right
Detailed techniques covered in class include:
- transferring your line drawing to watercolor paper
- masking off foreground areas to preserve whites
- creating wet into wet background washes
- re-working a background without introducing watermarks or faults
- achieving detailed foregrounds through the use of dry brush, pulling out color, charging in color, glazing, and toothbrush spattering
- adding the finishing touches such as the use of bleed proof white to soften edges and spraying on color to emphasize lighting and depth
Here's what some of Jean's former students are saying about her classes:
"I spent almost a year and a half taking watercolor classes under Jean. The first class I didn't even know if I could paint. My first finished painting was so beautiful, it almost made me cry. My class quickly became the highlight of my week. Jean's classes are so much fun. You will be amazed at the beautiful art you can produce following her patient, relaxed instruction. If she was still here, I'd still be going to class!" ~ Tracey
"I would like to say to anyone considering watercolor classes with Jean, ‘You are really in for a treat!’ She has been a wonderful teacher who made us all feel like accomplished artists. She was most willing to share her knowledge and never made us feel uncomfortable even when we knew we had only painted blobs. Jean amazed me many times by being able to tell me exactly what I needed to do to make my painting come to life. She truly is an accomplished artist who has a gift for teaching and I am so glad I was able to sit under her direction." ~ Glenda
